SixStopMusic – Lightfire “Run Aground”

Lightfire released new EP “Run Aground” on 2nd February 2013. It is the type of record that signals the beginning of a new chapter for a band already making airwaves in the UK unsigned scene. With 3 tracks full of angst, power and enough juicy goodness that Karnivool or The Foo Fighters would be mighty proud of!

Opener ‘Ignorance’ is fast, furious, and has the backing vocals shouting “Hey you” at lead singer Scott, inciting him to display his raspy, pain-fuelled lyrics which have you begging for a chorus of doom. This song does not let you down and after a soaring chorus that would not be out of place at Download this year, the song peaks with Scott screaming till the finish – Great moment!

Stand out track has to be “The System”, a song that has ‘single’ written all over it! Gritty guitars, a foot-stomper from start to finish and an unbelievably catchy chorus that you will not stop singing, introducing a ‘Lost Prophets’ feel to Lightfire.

The climax to this EP is “Time”, a builder that simmers nicely before exploding in your ears with a riff I can only liken to something Velvet Revolver would produce, but the vocals and melody keeping the sound closer to Skindred. The Guitars in this track are very impressive, with some nice effects used to create an eerie start, with a pulsating build complimented by a kick-ass drum and bass player.

Overall an EP should hit your audience between the eyes and showcase what a band are all about; Lightfire have achieved this with “Run Aground”. These three tracks only confirm that 2013 signals a new dawn for a band making music that matters.
