The Callout
The Roadhouse, Birmingham
March 19th 2013

calloutWe are in Birmingham for tonight’s gig at The Roadhouse.
It’s our first time at The Roadhouse, and we have to say we’re hugely impressed. The set-up is fantastic for live music and you can see why they have so many gigs here! The place screams of live music, has an excellent vibe, and we’re ready to be rocked!

Up next are The Callout. Another 4 piece band from Redditch, and we are ready!

They kick off with ‘As A Threat’, and the intro is a beauty! Already they establish themselves as the most polished act of the night so far, and they’re quick to demonstrate their tight, cohesive play.

The band then led us straight into ‘I’m Living Proof That We Won’t Change’ and the drummer pounds the skins like an animal. The track is very catchy, and we’re hearing almost The Gaslight Anthem go out on the town with Fightstar, and The Callout are the result of the fall out. Excellent track, and great sound.

The Callout then throw us a huge curveball, as they breakout into Five’s ‘Keep On Movin’’! Totally unexpected, but with The Big Reunion tour just around the corner, a smart addition to the set! Nice little twist.

Their 4th track entitled ‘Your Witness is a Flaw’ see’s the band really come into their own. Their consistent performance levels are upheld, their sound firmly established, and the performance so far, something to be admired. Musically these guys are great, and their delivery is top.

‘What She Says Goes’ is another really solid track. Not really a standout of the set, but reflective of the band’s sound. Really nice abrupt ending to this one, and the crowd are really enjoying this. And the same can be said of us!

Then another curveball! As The Callout bust out their cover of Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Don’t You Worry Child’. Another one we just did not see coming, but one we’re delighted we did see. And you can see every single member of the band ‘living’ every note of their performance.

The Callout finish on a track from their EP ‘Save Yourself’, called ‘Secrets’. There was some incredibly good guitar play in this one, and the track is a highlight of the set. It’s a great way to round off a polished performance.

There’s no doubt that whilst the covers were a great little twist, The Callout are at their best belting out their own material. A particular highlight was ‘I’m Living Proof That We Won’t Change’ (another track on their EP), and overall this was a great set from a band that clearly love to play.

Top stuff from a top local band striving for the big time. Get out and see these guys!

Really enjoyed this set. There were a couple of nice little additions to the set, but have to say, really liked The Callout’s material. They have a good sound, and by the looks of things these guys are always on the road. I recommend that if they are in your area, get out, and go and see them!

Jannetty says;
Stand out performance, delivered with energy and a stinging guitar sound. The original songs were fantastic, wanted more, would replace the cover songs with more originals! That aside, this lot could hold their own on any unsigned stage as they deliver a great show!
