Occoeur
Eddies, Birmingham
March 28th 2013

IMAG0992It’s the Thursday before the Bank Holiday, so what better than to make the trip to legendary Birmingham rock and metal venue Eddies to catch a few top local, up and coming bands strut their stuff.

First up are Occoeur, a local female-fronted 5 piece, who are ready to rock our socks off!

They kick off with ‘Another Life’. The song has a nice heavy build, and when the vocals drop we are impressed. One thing Occoeur establish from the outset, is that they can play, and have a frontwoman with some serious vocal ability.

The track comes packed with a superb solo, and the band have a great energy about them.

We thunder straight into the second track of the set, ‘Endless Lies’, and Occoeur keep the energy and tempo high! The lead singer is a born performer, and the band back her up with a top performance of their own. Everything so far is tight, crisp and Occoeur are proving to be a top opener!

After some nice crowd interaction (always important to bring the crowd into your performance – and the crowd duly respond), we’re treated to ‘Not Your Day’. The song has a nice melodic slow build, coupled with soft controlled vocal. You can see the band feeling every word and note. The drummer in particular shines in this track, and the crowd duly respond!

Track number four is a “darker one”, entitled ‘One More Night In Hell’. If you can imagine Amy Lee, Tarja Turunen, and Kobra Paige combining their voices and wrapping them into a frontwoman, then backing her up with each of their respective band’s sounds, then you have what we’re experiencing right now! The stage comes to life!

‘Fear Fall’ exposes the vocals, and their play, and Occoeur really deliver. These five really fill the room with their performance, top stuff!

The final track of the set is ‘Tell The Rivals’, and after wishing everyone ‘Happy Easter’, the band up their performance levels. Clearly a favourite with the band, and the crowd too! Occoeur are rocking the room and the track is a fitting finale to a very good set.

Occoeur picked the ball up and ran with it this evening. A top performance, and one we thoroughly enjoyed.

Jaytee says;
So often the first band of the evening lack the quality of those who follow. That wasn’t the case tonight. Occoeur were a welcome buck to this trend, and I really enjoyed them. Bigger and better things are coming their way judging by the performance they delivered tonight!

Jannetty says;
Tonight I was treated to the best vocal I’ve heard so far this year, backed by a band who created a brilliant platform to showcase this talent. One to watch this year as far as I’m concerned, I fully to expect to see them headlining Eddie’s in no time! Great show!
